Winemaker Olympic Festival Raises Funds, Awareness for Local Charity

August 3, 2011-Seattle, Wash.- Nearly 300 participants and spectators turned out for the Winemaker Olympic Festival at the Redhook Brewery grounds in Woodinville, Washington, on Wednesday, July 27. Festivities featured local winemakers and brewmasters, restaurants and gourmet food trucks, and as the highlight, the Winemaker Olympic Games. The event, which was a fundraiser for Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors, raised over $5000 in monetary and other contributions for the charity.

The Winemaker Olympic Games featured teams of winemakers from 14 Woodinville-area wineries competing against each other in such events as the Barrel Roll (winemaker inside), Bung Pass, Fill the Bottle, and the Wine Balloon Toss. Spectators cheered on their favorite teams and the competition was fierce! Winners of each of the events took home gold, silver, or bronze painted cork medals. Listed are the winners of each event:

The award for the 2011 Best Dressed Team went to Girly Girl Wines who wore matching pink wigs, pink
t-shirts and pink high socks.

Festival attendees enjoyed sampling wines from Betz Family Winery, Brian Carter Cellars, Chateau St. Michelle Winery, Columbia Winery, Covington Cellars, DeLille Cellars, Des Voigne Cellars, DiStefano Winery, EFESTE Wine, Elsom Cellars, Facelli Winery, Flying Dreams Winery, Girly Girl Wines, GooseRidge, JM Cellars, Obelisco Estate, Patterson Cellars, Pomum Cellars, Red Sky Winery, Silver Lake Winery, Stevens Winery, Two Vintners Winery and Woodhouse Family Cellars. Delicious food was provided by Veracci Pizza, Marination Mobile, Skillet Street Food and Custom Kettle Korn.

The money raised by the festival will be given to Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors, a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that provides assistance to wounded service personnel and their families. The goal at Heartbeat is to provide emergency assistance to relieve financial burdens; morale programs; support groups for caregivers and therapeutic services. Programs are for wounded service members and their families of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Heartbeat offers services to all branches of the military in Washington State.
